Leicester vs Newcastle Premier League match preview
Friday night football returns to the Premier League this week as Leicester host Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium.
Newcastle suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace last weekend, conceding a late penalty scored by Luka Milivojevic.
The defeat saw Newcastle drop down to 15th in the table. Rafa Benitez’s side are seven points above the relegation zone with five matches remaining. It is worth noting, however, that they have played more matches than the three teams directly below them.
Leicester moved up to 7th with a 4-1 over already-relegated Huddersfield on Saturday. Youri Tielemans opened the scoring for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Jamie Vardy (2) and James Maddison were also on the scoresheet.
The Foxes are tied on 47 points with Wolves, but have played a game more than them.
Leicester and Newcastle have met 23 times in Premier League history, with Newcastle winning 10 and losing 8.
Leicester won the reverse fixture 2-0 at St. James’ Park in September. Jamie Vardy scored from the spot before Harry Maguire doubled the Foxes’ lead in the second half.
