On Thursday
evening, Sevilla host Alaves at the Sanchez Pizjuan, in a game that could prove
to be the key to who makes the European places in La Liga this season.
Sevilla are currently seventh in La Liga but
would leapfrog the fifth-place visitors with a victory in this clash. A victory would also move the team from
Andalucia to within a point of Getafe, who occupy the final Champions League
berth.
The home side
has been on a poor recent run of form in the Spanish top-flight, having won
just two of their last eight league games. Last time out, Joaquin Caparros’
team suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Valencia. The loss brought an end to a
two-game winning run for the Andalusian’s.
The
aforementioned defeat against Valencia means that Sevilla have now won just
once in their last four home games in La Liga. The defeat to Los Ches also
brought an end to high scoring games at the Sanchez Pizjuan in La Liga for the
home side, as their previous four home games had produced over 2.5 goals.
Alaves have been one of the stories
of La Liga this season and could move level on points with Getafe with a
victory in this clash.
The visitors
have been difficult to beat of late in La Liga. In fact, a 4-0 home defeat by
in-form Atletico Madrid last time out ended a six-match unbeaten run in the
Spanish top-flight for Alaves.
Their
recent games in the Spanish top-flight have also been relatively high scoring,
with over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four La Liga outings.
Alaves are unbeaten in three away matches in the Spanish top-flight, having recorded
two straight away wins. The visitor’s recent away matches have been high
scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five games
